Circular.
Duration: 4 hours
Urumea River (length 44.9 km) is born in the port of Ezkurra, forming one of the rainiest basins flowing into the sea, in San Sebastian.
Ezkurra River is born also very close of Ezkurra’s port, with waters that spin to the East and, when it arrives to Santesteban and joins to the Baztan River, takes the name of Bidasoa River. It empties in the bay of Txingudi, next to the cape of Higuer, making border with France.
The lands watered by Ezkurra River and its affluents, until its mouth, form the Malerreka valley, that translated means “the water valley”.
What I intend with this route, apart from visiting the caves where are born these impressive rivers, is to realize an immersion into these valleys’ lifestyles, with their farmhouses, limekilns and meadows… All in perfect harmony with nature and the many fountains, regattas and torrents that emanate from the bowels of our dear mountains, that are our swamps ( very well saved and protected).
